• The Llamma's Game Console Forums • View topic - Trace Corrosion Repair Tutorial Part 2
Notes
It has been pointed out by chunkhead from the afterdawn.com and llama.com Forums that some X-Box motherboards have a corrosion problem on some traces. This corrosion is due to some sort of contamination from the factory. Due to this corrosion, it was found that some X-Boxes affected can produce the following symptoms: (1) The X-Box fails to power down using the power on/off button on the front panel. The power cord has to be pulled out to shut it down. (2) As soon as the power cord is plugged in, the X-Box powers up without pressing either the on/off or eject buttons. (3) While the X-Box is on for a certain amount of time, it shuts down by itself for no reason. The time factor before shut down can vary wildly.

When I'm not writing reviews for JayIsGames, I work full-time as a wizard. It's not easy work, believe me, nor is it nearly as glamorous as the movies make it out to be. One wrong incantation and you've blown yourself up or summoned an uncontrollable horde of demons. Arzea, a Metroidvania-style adventure game created by Arkeus originally for a Ludum Dare 24-hour game development competition and then expanded upon, demonstrates the kind of danger that magic can lead to. You're a wizard stranded in a strange world with only your wits and a variety of spells and upgrades to help you get home.

• Atari 2600 Wireless Joysticks | The Retroist
Notes
These early generation wireless joysticks were a far cry from the wireless pads we’ve come to enjoy (and expect) today. For starters, each joystick contained a 9-volt battery, an on/off switch, and a non-retractable 6″ antenna poking out the front of each one. I guess after the batteries died, you could still sword fight with them.

• SWTOR Catches the Dancing Bug…that Makes Players Immortal | Inside Gaming Daily Blog
Notes

According to a post on Geekosystem, BioWare’s new MMO allows players to dance by entering different commands—which, apparently, is something that other MMOs let you do as well, a thing I didn’t know was true. But what sets SWTOR apart from those other games is that, while your on-screen avatar is boogying with the “/getdown command”, your enemies “can’t maintain focus,” meaning you can’t get hit.
This is not a bug they should have fixed :)

• Why Star Wars: The Old Republic Matters | PIXELS OR DEATH
Notes
And with this comes my old friend: the solo, in-my-brain roleplaying. SWTOR is the first MMORPG to engage the part of my brain where my imagination dwells – and I’ve played a lot of them. Usually, I’m left with the cheap thrill of my level increasing, or my sword getting gnarlier, and SWTOR definitely leans on these same trappings occasionally. But, regardless, Bioware has succeeded in igniting my brain in ways that only single player games have previously – and, to frank with ya’ll, I can’t stop playing it. The in-brain back story and moral compass are all firmly in play, and enriching the game constantly.

Notes
Keep in mind that Valve isn't above trolling its own fans -- Gabe Newell could have a 50-square-foot room at Valve studios stuffed full of Half-Life 3 t-shirts, foam hands and head crabs to keep the excitement alive, and a lot of empty hard drive space for the actual game. Nonetheless, @Ekanaut, the marketing man for Monday Night Combat studio Uber Entertainment, spotted this Half-Life 3 shirt "worn by a Valve employee" at Seattle's Eastside Industry Night.

• SupaBoy portable SNES, the most fun you can have without a soldering iron -- Engadget
Notes
We previewed Hyperkin's SupaBoy back in the summer and loved the idea of toting 'round original SNES games without resorting to Ben Heck-style crafting. The handheld takes full-size cartridges, packs a 3.5-inch screen and a battery that's disappointingly rated for just two point five hours (best keep a power cable handy). It'll also double as a home console: there's an AV-out port and slots for two classic controllers for when you wanna kick it old-school. It's reportedly compatible with titles like Mario World, A Link to the Past and Starwing Starfox, but who needs them when we've got a mint condition copy of Tetris Attack at home? It'll cost you $80 and is available from Amazon as of yesterday -- we suggest you get to practicing blowing the dirt from the connectors, since you'll be doing a lot of it soon.

My breaths came in rapid, gasping spurts, and my heart was beating with such ferocity, I felt for certain it would leap from my chest and fall to the unforgiving floor where it would flop to and fro like a great crimson fish. My skin was slick with a veneer of cool, clammy sweat, and my hands, which held the source of my terror, shook a bit as I read each cursed word inscribed in that hellish tome. Why did I ever allow my curiosity concerning the priceless urn of the Graves Mansion get the better of me?

Notes
Back in the real world, at Legends, StarCraft fans continued to trickle in. We had the whole main floor to ourselves, and it finally started to fill up late in the afternoon, but "real" sports fans vastly outnumbered us for most of the day. Just after the soccer fans finally chilled out, some NY Giants fans congregated in the balcony and proceeded to be real jerks about it; one jersey-clad fan stood and pointed at us from above, as if we were a curiosity in a zoo. In a particularly tense moment, where the football fans started yelling irrationally at their own screens, StarCraft fans started chanting "MLG! MLG! MLG! MLG!," as if that would quiet the opposition.

Notes
"Traditionally, GOG.com has looked for great classics that are three years old or older," he said. "We will continue to add classic games, of course, but we are actively working to sign newer titles now." Rambourg noted that the newer games will cost more than most GOG releases --$13.99 to $16.99, but that the company plans to maintain its DRM-free model. The low prices suggest that these won't be brand new games, but simply games more recent than GOG's current three-year cutoff period.

In BlazBlue, if you've never touched a 2D fighter, you're out of luck. If you've never devoted serious time to a 2D fighting game before, Skullgirls will teach you how to crawl, walk, then dominate your opponents. It wants to train you to be a master and I'm all for that.

• Is it Game Over for Nintendo DS and Sony PSP?
Notes
Portable gaming, played primarily on Nintendo DS and Sony PSP devices, has been dominated by these two companies for over two decades. In this model, at retail, consumers pay around $200 for the gaming device and up to $40 for popular game cartridges. Because of the similar form factor, overlap in consumer base (especially younger players on iPod touch) and the casual nature of game content, Flurry combines iOS and Android devices with traditional portable devices to form the category. With the inclusion of smartphone game revenue into the category, shifts taking place in market share become clearer.
