NotesHave you ever hit the number keys while watching Youtube? That simple action jumps the video to different timestamps - and creative musicians have discovered you can use this like a primitive sampler. This observation sparked an idea.
As someone who loves experimenting with drum machines like the Arturia Drumbrute, I wanted to take this Youtube "feature" and transform it into something musical. I built Youtube Sequencer using TypeScript and Redux to create a robust, reliable music-making tool that doesn't miss a beat. The result is a sequencer that turns any Youtube video into an instrument.
Traditional sampling can be time-consuming, requiring you to download, trim, and import audio files. Youtube Sequencer removes these barriers - just paste a URL and start creating.Unfurl

NotesWaveTracker is a free and open source music-making software for Windows. It uses wavetable synthesis and sampling to generate sounds, with endless combinations of effects to warp, modify or distort waves and sounds. Unfurl
NotesPart of the reason the DX7 was so revolutionary was that it was among the first accessible synthesizers that was fully digital, meaning could play more than one note at a time since expensive analog circuitry didnât need to be replicated for multiple keys. But it also generated its tones by using frequency modulation of sine waves in a way that allowed many signals to be combined to form different sounds. While most popular musicians of the 80s used one of the preset sounds of the synthesizer, it could produce an incredible range of diverse sounds if the musician was willing to dig a bit into the programming of this unique instrument.FeedEmbedUnfurl
NotesWhen it comes to music production, the '80s will probably be remembered for great synths, rubbish synths, great music and terrible music. What it probably wonât be remembered for is its contribution to the history of computer music making. This is, frankly, wrong. Here's whyâŠFeedUnfurl

NotesSurprisingly, this is not a depressing listening experience. There is something so cathartically bleak about Songs of a Lost World, so epically pessimistic and emotionally wrought, that the results are perversely invigorating, transmuting powerful feelings of loss, grief, anxiety, anger and self-doubt into a work of such grandeur it leaves the listener strangely exhilarated and uplifted. Like shaking a fist at an approaching hurricane, it is an album thatâs very existence evokes defiance of terrible forces of destruction. In embracing darkness, Smith offers a potent Cure for the blues.Unfurl

NotesOk, so 1992 was pretty much the best year ever for music. The Rave scene was blowing up, and every week it seemed like dozens of amazing records were coming outâway more than little 10-year-old me could buy. This was the year that the UK really took the reins from Belgium & the States w/r/t dance music, and when the idea of "rave music" as a distinct thing from house/techno started to emerge.FeedUnfurl

NotesVocalist/keyboardist Sarah Barthel sings hauntingly through an MF-104Z Analog Delay while playing not one, but two Moog synthesizers. Her left hand is in charge of the Minimoog Voyager Select Series providing big fat bass lines; the Little Phatty Stage II is arpeggiating in latch mode throughout the entire song. It is also being MIDI synced with the drum machine that percussionist Tim Oakley is performing on. In addition to the drum machine, Tim uses the Minimoog Voyager XL for a percussive sound.
Meanwhile, guitarist/vocalist Josh Carter covers both the full sustain and the mute modes of the Moog Guitar. Going through an MF-104Z Analog Delay and the MF-102 Ring Modulator, Josh creates an ethereal backdrop with the tremolo arm of the Moog Guitar..Unfurl

NotesAnd then Mike Turner left. And no matter how many times the bandâs members insist his departure didnât matter all that much, the groupâs legacy has subsequently been divided into The Years With Mike Turner and The Years Without Mike Turner. To this day, itâs hard to put a finger on what exactly it is that changed. Gravity, the 2002 album that brought Our Lady Peace its most mainstream success to date behind the infectious âSomewhere Out Thereâ, was guitarist Steve Mazurâs first go-around with the band, and combined with Bob Rockâs production tricks, the effort showcased a decidedly harder sound with a more polished edge. So, you can point to that when trying to figure out where the change came from, if youâd like. But after the disappointing and rushed (their words, not mine) Healthy in Paranoid Times, they erased Rock from the equation and yet Burn Burn, Our Lady Peaceâs first DIY-fueled album, still didnât quite measure up to those first four records. NotesIn 2009, Boucher and her then-boyfriend from Tennessee constructed a 20-foot houseboat, named the "Velvet Glove Cast in Iron", with the intention to sail it down the Mississippi River from Minneapolis to New Orleans. The cargo included chickens, a typewriter, 20 pounds of potatoes and a gifted copy of Mark Twain's The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. However, the chickens caught eastern equine encephalitis virus and perished soon into the trip. Boucher and her companion adopted the names "Varuschka" and "Zelda Xox" for the trip.[14] Due to engine trouble and subsequent harassment from the Minnesota police, the journey was cut short and the houseboat and chickens were impounded.[14] Their diet consisted mainly of potatoes.[15] FeedUnfurl

Notes The Internet Underground Music Archive was better known by the acronym IUMA. The IUMA was started in 1993 by three students at the University of California at Santa Cruz: Jeff Patterson, Jon Luini and Rob Lord. The three men worked together to create an online music archive that would help musicians and bands who weren't signed by a major label. The site allowed these unsigned artists to upload files and send them to fans. The site also enabled the artists the opportunity to talk with their fans. The IUMA was first part of the Usenet newsgroups. Unfurl
NotesFounded in 1985, the DNA Lounge (Dance Not Art) has provided live music acts as well as DJs and special events to the San Francisco area, and is one of the longer-surviving clubs of its kind. In 1999, the club was purchased by Jamie Zawinski, remodeled extensively, and re-opened in 2001. Since that time, it has hosted thousands of performances, all of which have been broadcast over the web and available for a short time after the event. These broadcasts have been downloaded over the last decade and compiled into this archive of shows, matched with information from the DNA Lounge website.Unfurl
