NotesHighlight:In our current digital landscape, where a corporate algorithm tells us what to read, watch, drink, eat, wear, smell like, and sound like, human curation of the web is an act of revolution. A simple list of hyperlinks published under a personal domain name is subversive. Curation is punk.
Lets break away from the protective layer that is our For You Pages.FeedUnfurl
NotesCuration is the act of individuals with a passion for a content area to find, contextualize, and organize information. Curators provide a consistent update regarding what's interesting, happening, and cool in their focus. Curators tend to have a unique and consistent point of view--providing a reliable context for the content that they discover and organize. To be clear, Pinterest both creates tools to organize the noisy web and, at the same time, creates more instances of information in a different context. So it's both part of the problem, and a solution. The trick is finding the Pinterest pinboards that you like, and tune out the rest. Unfurl
Notes"An online debate has already begun about various ways that Delicious might be āsavedā. As someone who was on the inside for a while and who wants very much to see Delicious live on, I thought Iād chime in"FeedEmbedUnfurl
Notes"Our technical goals are to never lose data, be very fast, and favor boring and faded technologies where possible. A rule of thumb that has worked well for me is that if I'm excited to play around with something, it probably doesn't belong in production."Unfurl
NotesHonest look at what happened to ma.gnolia. Painful, but honest. In a nutshell: Make sure your backups are recoverable, and prove it regularly. Someday, something *will* go boom. It'll really hurt when the data loss is over half-a-terabyte. "This week Chris and Larry discuss the Ma.gnolia's data loss, what is has meant for the service and in the community, and what may be coming in the future."Unfurl
NotesAt one point, I thought something like this would've been a good idea for Delicious. But, I never took time to think it through or make a case for it. Could be a horrible idea for all I know. It'll be interesting to see where and how far this goes: "As we develop M2, it means weāll be posting the code for most pieces in the open and having regular discussions on both technical and non-technical subjects to get input from the community and to share our progress. ... Once M2 is launched, the open source aspects can be downloaded and run as a self-administered installation that can be independent or federated with other installations, including Ma.gnolia.com."Unfurl
Notes"Unlike other bookmarking services, which simply save a link to a page's location, Iterasi captures the content of a page as it appears at that particular moment in time and saves it in an accessible HTML format with just one click."Unfurl
Notes"But seriously, one of their web badges has the slogan āping pong, king kong, Mister Wong.ā Which I, of course, interpret as āching chong, Mister Wongā and get INCREDIBLY FUCKING ANGRY."Unfurl
Notes"If you do decide to explicitly publish your bookmarks in a sidebar widget on your blog, it may change the way you bookmark. It did for me, anyway."Unfurl
Notes"It occurs to me that perhaps in the information economy, quality information, links and good ideas really are useful and valuable surrogates in place of donating money"Unfurl
Notes"Build a list of links through a simple AJAX web interface, published via HTML and RSS. Sort of a mini-blog for links. Written in PHP5 and runs off XML files - no database needed."Unfurl
Notes"These feeds are bare-bones Microformatted html documents with support for looking at our bookmarks in several different ways: as plain bookmarks in xFolk, as blog entries in hAtom, as reviews in hReview, and as all of the above combined."Unfurl
NotesI thought this was supposed to be an enhancement add-on service for del.icio.us. Instead it looks like a prettily-designed yet not obviously useful replacement.Unfurl
