NotesOn Tuesday Space X launched another shipment of supplies off to the International Space Station, and there to receive it today is none other than Captain Janeway.
Sam Cristoforetti is an Italian astronaut currently aboard the International Space Station. She's been in orbit since November of last year, and from the looks of it she did a little extra packing for the trip. She's clearly wearing a Starfleet uniform and a tiny ISS pin in place of the traditional chevron.

NotesIf you’ve ever had to repair an iPhone for a friend, you’ll know they have a ridiculous number of screws. Most companies standardize screws in their products, but since Apple doesn’t expect you to fix a phone yourself… they may have let this one slide.
You see, each of these screws is different. The red ones are 1.7mm long, the yellow one, 1.3mm, and the orange one, 1.2mm.
Guess what happens if you install either red or yellow screws into the orange spot, since your eyesight isn’t good enough to notice a 0.1mm difference? The screw will cut into the PCB and break several 50 micron traces, as shown in the picture above, causing a blue screen error on the phone.
Fun stuff.
[Sam Schmidt] is the owner of a repair outfit called iRepairNational, and he and his team spent a day trying to figure out the problem – it’s not exactly easy to spot. They’ve managed to repair it by cutting thin strips of copper foil (the width of a human hair) and floating it into place using the surface tension of the flux they were using for soldering. On average it takes them around 2 hours to do the repair, though they’ve done a few in just under an hour.
Since discovering and sharing the problem, they’ve had customers around the world sending in phones for repair – often at the fault of someone else trying to repair something completely different in the phone, and then using the wrong screw as they put it all back together.

NotesBy her own recollection, Megan Campbell, an employee of St. Paul Parks and Recreation in Minnesota was driving a supply van back from a city storage building when she turned a corner, causing serious front-bumper damage to a parked car.
The damaged 2001 Nissan Pathfinder in question wasn't just anybody's vehicle. It was her own. Now, Campbell has filed a claim against the city seeking $1,600 to $1,900 from public coffers for damage caused to her personal vehicle by a city worker - herself.
"Because I was working for the city and driving the city vehicle, I feel they are responsible for paying for the damage done to my car," Campbell wrote in a "notice of claim" form received this week by the city clerk's office. Campbell, a 2014 college grad, has worked for the Parks and Recreation Department since May.
"I think I can safely say this is a very unusual claim," said City Clerk Shari Moore. Parks department spokesman Brad Meyer said the incident will be reviewed by the city's accident review board, as is customary for any accident involving city employees driving city vehicles. "The outcome of that will determine next steps with the employee ... and help inform the claim proceedings," he said.FeedUnfurl
NotesAcross the U.S., people are indulging in a drug that is imposing huge costs on themselves and society. It's called alcohol, and its excessive use has led to approximately 88,000 deaths per year. A growing body of research suggests marijuana could lower that number, since people who smoke pot tend to drink less.

Love was in the air for Anthony Brasfield when he released a dozen heart-shaped balloons into the sky over Dania Beach, Florida, with his sweetheart.
Brasfield, 40, and his girlfriend, Shaquina Baxter, were in the parking lot of the Motel 6 on Dania Beach Boulevard when he released the shiny red and silver balloons and watched them float away on Sunday morning.
Also watching the romantic gesture was a Florida Highway Patrol trooper, who instead noted probable cause for an environmental crime. Endangered marine turtle species and birds, such as wood storks and brown pelicans, seek refuge in John U. Lloyd State Park, about 1.5 miles east of the motel.
Brasfield was charged with polluting to harm humans, animals, plants, etc. under the Florida Air and Water Pollution Control Act. The third-degree felony is punishable by up to five years in prison.FeedUnfurl
