NotesItās been at least 10 years since I last saw Neverwhere, the six-part BBC series by Neil Gaiman and Lenny Henry that subsequently became a Gaiman novel and marked one of my earliest introductions to his work. Sometimes itās really rough revisiting early works from writers you adore because ā depending on the writer and the relative earliness of said work ā the odds may be sizeable that it just wonāt hold up. Which is why it delights me to say, after binging the Neverwhere 15th Anniversary Edition DVD the other night, that not only does the show hold up, but it cemented my opinion that, for works from exceptional storytellers like Gaiman, the best possible medium for any filmed adaptation is television.Unfurl
Notes"Not only are you paying for a DRM infested file that will only play on a couple of devices and getting files which aren't optimized for the portable devices they're supposed to be designed for, you have to wait several weeks to get the same movie found on the DVD.
Unless you're looking for video files that are more restricted than DVDs and not optimized for your portable device you're better off doing your own encoding. "Unfurl
Notes"Thatās me in the DVD. But because the MPAA makes software companies bend over to protect their content by baking DRM into the apps that ship with my computer, Iām prevented from doing legitimate things with my own content. Thankfully, there are ways around it (Jing was more than happy to capture a screenshot - Iām sure the MPAA attack dogs will be closing that hole ASAP)."FeedUnfurl
Notes"The Rush "SNAKES & ARROWS" MVI comes in a deluxe box, and includes these 13 new songs in hi-resolution audio, the entire album in 5.1 surround sound, a video documentary on the making of the album, and more (see below)."Unfurl
Notes"It is also apparent that AACS will give the option of a computer/player "phoning home" if so chosen, so verify you got a good copy. Fuck that right in the ear. I will never do that, either."Unfurl
Notes"The company will take commercial DVDs and rip them for use on portable devices for $10 for 1 DVD, $20 for 3 DVDs or $30 for 5 DVDs. That is, until their legal department hears what's happening."Unfurl
Notes"the press will "discover" that the media is susceptible to CD or DVD rot that will eat your information audio, video or data in as little as two years after it is written. "Unfurl
Notes"If you are not prepared to fill in the blanks, to overlook the flaws, and to refrain from violently rejecting some of the more unpleasant aspects of late-1980s pop culture, then the recent DVD release of the animated Legend of Zelda can only bring pain aUnfurl
Notes"I've tried to make a decent, good, solid loaf of bread here, which tastes good, is what it says it is, and doesn't cheat you." Definitely happy I bought this.Unfurl
Notes"Because treating my customers/audience like moronic criminals is not what intelligent beings do." Hooray - almost makes me want to order the documentary again. Maybe I will, for a birthday gift or somethingUnfurl
