Notes That's what AutoWeb is all about. We took what we learned in automating print publishing and applied those lessons to the development, deployment and maintenence of structures of web pages. Unfurl
NotesSo now I'm on the cusp of releasing a tool that allows you to write directly onto the web in an outliner. The distance between the content on your machine and it being on the web is one mouse-click. That's exactly how far you want it to be. My father is not alive to see this, but if he were, he'd probably die from excitement. This is something he and I shared, at a genetic level, in our DNA, is this idea that the human mind can reach outside of itself, onto a computer, to make even more powerful and useful intellectual structures. Honestly, I wish he were here to share this with me. permalinkFeedUnfurl
NotesRight now, Dave’s working on a “magnificent symphony of software” – it’s the communication system he wants to use. It involves a minimal blogging tool with only RSS output (plus a dongle that will push the RSS to twitter, etc), a “River of News” aggregator, and an overarching tool for creating content that can be picked apart and included on other platforms.Unfurl
Notes"At Berkman we're studying weblogs, how they're used, and what they are. Rather than saying "I know it when I see it" I wanted to list all the known features of weblog software, but more important, get to the heart of what a weblog is, and how a weblog is different from a Wiki, or a news site managed with software like Vignette or Interwoven. I draw from my experience developing and using weblog software (Manila, Radio UserLand) and using competitive products such as Blogger and Movable Type."Unfurl
Notes"Yes, of course -- it's running in Frontier, which was GPL'd in 2004. It's got the full environment, the object database, scripting, verb set, TCP support, web server, CMS, etc."Unfurl
Notes"The reason why it's such a good fit is that Twitter is a river, I saw that immediately. It's what I've been preaching. They got a lot of people to think in terms of River of News. So of course I'm going to jump on that bandwagon. I'll take victory howeveUnfurl
NotesAmen: "I think the problem with browser-based RSS software is that the people who write the apps aren't news junkies. If they were, they could, with much less effort, create something far more powerful and far more usable."Unfurl
Notes"They say it's just a rehash of Netvibes. If they had been aware of how RSS came to be, they would realize that it's the other way around, Netvibes is a reprise of My.Netscape. "Unfurl
