NotesBy default, the parser does string interpolation using the characters < (less than) and > (greater than). The cleverness of this is debatable: these characters are also used for I/O redirection, which can quickly make things confusing. Luckily, the parser also accepts the directives .BRA and .KET, each followed by a single character, which lets the programmer override the default interpolation characters. The terms BRA and KET are most likely borrowed from Dirac notation. Unfurl
Notes This paradoxical duality of writing commercial software and cracking games defines the complex and often incomprehensible attitude towards copyright or intellectual property - for lack of a better word - on the demo scene. Unfurl
Notes Still, there are setups and there are setups. Having recently visited the Swedish Amiga demo party GERP, I had the opportunity to photograph a worthy contender to - and, to me, current holder of - the throne. Without further ado, let's examine! Unfurl
NotesThat was solved recently when I bought an Amiga 1000 on eBay. This is the long-overdue story about how I restored, fixed, and upgraded it and my future plans. If you’re the rabbit hole type, I added as many links and references as I could so you can dive deeper into the Amiga world. I hope you enjoy reading it.Unfurl
NotesThe core of the Amiga Operating systems consists of the three major components Exec (scheduling, memory management, IPC), Intuition (GUI library) and AmigaDOS (process and file management). AmigaDOS is based on the Tripos operating system which Commodore bought because development of their own DOS subsystem failed to meet deadlines. In this article, I am presenting searchable PDFs of the very rare Tripos manuals (638 pages) as well as the AmigaDOS manual (304 pages). Comparing the two documents will share some insight in the relationship between Tripos and Amiga OS.FeedEmbedUnfurl
NotesSince the Raspberry Pi was just sitting there, and the Amiga lacked (*) a network adapter - why not just connect the dots and get something up and running? I did, and it worked. Here's a quick writeup on what I did - if anyone's interested I can write a more detailed post with all the information I have.Unfurl
NotesDo you know those weird, abstract games that you find yourself instantly drowned in and hopelessly addicted to? Be warned: you just stumbled upon one. A great one. Amiga and PC versionsUnfurl
NotesMy second ever MOD. Lots of Meat Beat Manifesto and Aphex Twin samples. Awkward, but less sucky than the first. Still pretty sucky, thoughEmbedUnfurl
NotesMy first MOD ever, using OctaMed. Sounds awful and out of tune. I could have sworn I fixed that using some parameter in OctaMed, but no player I've found agrees with me. Could be I just sucked and didn't hear it back thenEmbedUnfurl
NotesHad some friends who wanted to start an artscene / demoscene group called "L8X" (ie. latex), so I knocked out this intro theme in an afternoon. Source material was a pile of NES game samples and a few random synths and movie vocals.EmbedUnfurl
NotesThis was someone else's Amiga MOD, which in turn was a cover of Rob Hubbard's C64 chiptune Goldrunner. I remixed it by replacing all the samples and reworking a bunch of the patterns, as a learning exerciseEmbedUnfurl
NotesThe last Amiga .MOD that I wrote before the end of college. Still kind of cheesy, but the best thing I turned out with an A1200 and a CasioTone MIDI keyboard. Lots of weird technical things, like squashing a 4-track drum pattern down to one track by hand-merging samples and working out the composite patternEmbedUnfurl
Notes"Lemmings started life as a simple animation back in August 1989 when DMA Design had just moved into their first office (which only consited of 2 small rooms), and were begining a new game called Walker (based on the walker that was used in Blood Money)."Unfurl
Notes"For fans of the Commodore Amiga, the introduction of the new Amiga 3000 was big news, even though the price tag was nearly $4,000. This program looked at the new Amiga computer and new third party appplications. Demonstrations include the Amiga 3000, the Amiga 2500, the AmigaVision authoring system, The Animation Studio, and the Video Toaster from NewTek. Also includes a visit to FAUG, the First Amiga Users Group, in Palo Alto. Guests include Paul Montgomery, Tim Jenison, Lou Wallace, and Hedley Davis. Originally broadcast in 1990."EmbedUnfurl
Notes"Module files (MODs) are a class of file formats used to represent music on a computer. They store several patterns or pages of music data in a form similar to that of a spreadsheet. These patterns contain note numbers, instrument numbers, and controllerFeedUnfurl
Notes"The Amiga was notable for its use of unique, dedicated processor chips for tasks like real time video effects. Dennis has recreated these chips in a Xilinx Spartan-3 400K gate FPGA."Unfurl
